Renovation projects can sometimes fall into two categories, ones that you nearly finish and ones that nearly finish you. Last month marked the anniversary of when we started this current project and for the most part I think I am winning the renovation battle. A huge tick on my list was our master bedroom. It was another room that as you peeled back the layers you uncovered additional problems. So it made sense to strip the room right back and give it the overhaul it deserves.
Our house was built in 1929. Typical for that time, ceiling pendants wouldn’t be central and electrics would be surface mounted so moving these gave us the opportunity to replace them with the Corston solid brass switches and sockets that I had been lusting after for the best part of a year.
The importance of the finer details should never be underestimated when planning a room, very much like the jewellery worn with an outfit. To create a luxury feel, you need the luxury details; and in our bedroom, Corston adds that perfect extra touch to make this room a real special space for us.
Corston Architectural Design are a British brand that started with a team of creative designers and engineers. Their vision was to create hand finished designs that are timeless and would work in a range of interior styles. They have a range of finishes including Antique Brass, Bronze, Polished Nickel and a very clever clear option too. The range boasts a collection of door & cupboard furniture (which includes locks, latches, doorstops, key covers, hinges, and push plates), shelf brackets, hooks, switches & sockets as well as wall lights. We love the Antique Brass finish personally and how it adds warmth to the room and ties in all our other brass accents that we have. The beauty with the antique brass finish is that the finish will continue to develop and each piece will vary slightly in patina. Which is a look I absolutely adore but if this isn’t for you by polishing with Brasso you can restart the ageing process and return the naturally bright colour. We have added the Malvern wall lights which are complimented with an 100% linen shade either side of our bed. Both practical and beautiful to have these on in the evenings while we are reading in bed or for simply a much softer glow to the room. They are also the perfect size to use in many different rooms. Perfect to use to frame art work or pictures as well as working well in an office or kitchen. As you enter the room we have the 2G two way toggle light switch for our lights which is something of a show stopper in looks but also feels amazing to touch. The double antique brass with black insert plug sockets are used around the room. Sitting perfectly flush to the walls for a contemporary feel. The socket that we have next to the bed also has USB ports which are ideal for charging a smart watch and phone.I have been so impressed with Corston products, not only is the design on point, but they are exceptional quality without the eye-watering prices. I feel that they have completely elevated the space.
