Valentine Gifts You Should Buy Yourself

Life before Simon, Valentines day was really important to me. I would even book the day off work to ensure I had the whole day to be worshipped like a princess. Little disclaimer here. My previous boyfriends didn’t seem to get the Princess memo and I was often left sat at home with them clueless as to what day it even was. Then there were the times I was single on Valentines day and it would kill me that everyone was in love (also read as ‘everyone was eating at nice restaurants’) on this one magical day.

Simon showed me the light. I now no longer care about Valentines day. Normally the week before we have the ‘are we bothering?’ chat. If my bank balance is healthy its a hell yeah! Otherwise I couldn’t care less. I am fairly poor at buying ‘just because’ gifts so it is nice to have an annual nudge to show Si I love him.

Sensing that this year will be another ‘lets not bother one’ and also sensing I might get a little bit of FOMO seeing instagram awash with Jo Malone fragrance and ‘because he’s my boo’ captions, I have put together the gift guide we should be shopping for ourselves.

Do you go all out for Valentines day or is it just another day?

Happy shopping.

Although I hate the idea of massive balloons and an unnecessary amount of affection – I do secretly love the fun that Valentine’s Day brings. My husband and I don’t celebrate it, but I still enjoy everyone else’s day!

I will however be giving myself a little Valentine’s Day love from this list! Thank you Cara!!!

    xx

I took part in valentines when I was seventeen and had my first proper boyfriend because it felt like the thing to do. I think I bought him maltesers!
Fourteen years later and I have not celebrated it since, despite being in retionships for twelve of those years. I just don’t get it. My boyfriends have always thought I was lulling them into a trap and couldn’t believe that I wouldn’t want to celebrate.
We truly do show each other with the little thigs we do throughout the year.
But shopping for me, you had me at gift guide…

We used to do Valentine’s Day pre children but nowadays I would much rather order a massive takeaway, crack open a bottle of wine, put my pjs on and watch a good series on TV. Boring as it sounds that is life for us, I do like the idea of buying myself a gift though. Last year I got the newest GHD’s from my other half – they are still in the box. I’m so naughty as I moaned for a good year that I needed new straighteners, oops!

We used to celebrate, our first ever one together we were apart and he sent me a bouquet of red roses. It was lovely as we were in that crazy in love phase, I was only 21 as well. 13 years later….we might get a supermarket meal deal and exchange cards. I think my 5 year old has higher expectations than me, he wants heart chocolates from a secret admirer!
