Love Yourself

Love Yourself

Happiness is absolutely unique to each person. Its easy to look at other people being happy and believe that what works for them will also work for you. I have been guilty of believing this too. Thinking that eating in uber trendy restaurants and even more recently ‘owning a beret’ are the the keys to happiness.

I have recently felt all over the place with my emotions. I have just shifted my career focus and I’m trying to get to grips with that, but also it has had an affect on my household. I don’t deal well with stress and like most people I take it out on those close to me. I have been starting arguments about the tiniest of mess in a bid to gain control. Maybe even I cry for help to say ‘I cant do it all.’

You cant rely on other people to make you happy, it also turns out you cant rely on cadburys to make you happy. So in true Cara style I thought getting a journal, where I can make lists and notes and buy new stationary would make me happy. I had the Love Yourself Lean journal just after Christmas. That hazy period where you promise to make changes for the new year never really works for me. Along with not being a fan of failing I wanted to wait till I was in the right place to give some focus to my wellbeing. Now is that time otherwise I fear I may not only lose my mind but also my husband.

Over the last week I have started to use the book. As I have said before in my  Winter Blues blog post. Its important for me to make a note of what I’m going to do today for me. I then have something to look forward to and making that note at the start of the day means it will be realistic to how I am feeling and what time I actually have to dedicate to my happiness.

You might laugh or you might be absolutely with me on this but I have started listening to mediation on youtube at bedtime. I have found some amazing Australian guy who literally only has to tell me to relax and I’m asleep. My husband thinks its hilarious and actually about six months ago I would have thought the same. Now however it is incredible! Don’t forget that when I had my facial I was told meditation will improve the clarity of my skin. So I am slowly coming round to what I would have previously thought was airy fairy is actually so crucial for me.

So what is the journal all about and why do I think it is helpful for me. Its not easy to summarise a book that manages to cover so many aspects of health. Yet in its simplest form it covers physical, spiritual, emotional and mental health. It has a daily page where you can record not only your focus for the day but also your water and food intake. It allows you to set yourself realistic goals for your wellness journey. It gives you ideas of activities to focus on to improve each aspect of your health.

Its great for those of you that work in an office as you can pop it on your desk and doodle or colour in. For me it just lives in the kitchen and I fill it in at meal times. I also have been taking it to bed to help me think about the next days goals. The biggest help this has been for me has been to plan in some exercise and increase my water intake.

At the start of the journal it encourages you to take a few photos. One in particular is a no make up selfie! I didn’t do this and I really wish I had because I’ve noticed a massive improvement in my skin and I would love to see a before and after!

Valentines day is approaching and I am planning on treating my friends this year instead of my husband because friendship is so important to me. I think these journals make great gifts for yourself but also its great to get someone on the journey with you right? You cant buy happiness but you can buy the tools to help you get there.

Great post Cara. Thank you. Could you tell me the name of the guy you use for meditation for sleep? I’m averaging 5 hours a night ( and waking up 2/3 times) – I need something to help me sleep more!!

He’s called Michael Sealey and I’ve been listening to his ‘detachment from overthinking’ x

I can so relate to this! Your honesty so refreshing by the way. I’ve been all over the place this January with way too many things to think about and do (none of them actually bringing in any money just all prep for the business, the house refurb and a daughter who is mid GCSEs) I rarely get to sleep before 1am and I’m a total nightmare to live with. And I’m a therapist!! I’m supposed to be the Cadburys Caramel Bunny! (Google her. You’re way too young).

One thing I’ve learned though is to start fresh every morning. No major ‘life changes’ just start each morning with good intentions and then if it all turns to shit, just start again the next day!

    Keep being amazing.

I definitely agree with you, its better to focus on the day improvements rather than the 6 months down the line goal! Thank you for being so lovely xxx

Thank you for the discount code. I ordered mine last week, I can’t wait for it to arrive. I feel like I’ve been quite negative recently hoping this journal will refresh me back to my more positive self. X

Hi Cara, I was diagnosed last year with suffering from stress and anxiety and looking back over the years I must have been for a long time. I have been trying to find things to help me to calm down and funny enough I too found Michael Sealey on you tube (my husband thinks I am bonkers). My stress comes out in me in migraines which can sometimes turn into panic attacks. Listening to him for the first time through sheer desperation I actually burst into tears I felt such a wave of calm come over me! I have recently started to use the app Headspace which has been very good I recommend it as it makes you take 10 minutes out of your day to focus on learning how to mediate (and another man with a dreamy voice)

Love this post and can truely relate I bought the happiness planner before Christmas and love it! I don’t have problems with sleeping- I’m flat out as soon as my head hits the pillow but my partner listens to the meditation at bedtime he says it’s 100% improved his sleep 😊
